Summer Finds: Three things I can’t stop talking about

Summer-finds

A few weeks ago, I shared some interesting new companies designing their business around both purpose and profit. This month, I found a few more interesting things worth talking about…

Upcycle That. For the past couple weeks, I’ve been working on some projects around the house. Using Pinterest and YouTube as my guide, I’ve been searching for tips, guides and inspiration for everything from replacing a light fixture to choosing paint colors. Along the way I stumbled across Upcycle That. The site is a great source for giving a second life to the things you own.

How I Built This. This addictive find is also a result of my house projects. I started listening to podcasts while I was working and came across HIBT. Having worked in retail real estate, I couldn’t stop listening to the start up stories of familiar brands, like Patagonia, Warby Parker, Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, DryBar, Crate and Barrel, and the list goes on. If you have time, download the podcast. There is something inspiring about listening to a successful entrepreneur tell his or her story – the good, the bad and the lucky.

ReTuna Upcycling Mall. Poking around Upcycle, I found my third favorite find: a mall for recycled and repaired goods. The first of its kind, the mall is part recycling center and part shopping mall and an interesting test for the ‘stuff’ epidemic. The center also includes a café and restaurant, as well as a conference and exhibition facility complete with a specialty school for studying recycling.

I love learning about new projects, hearing interesting stories and finding new ways companies are combining purpose and profit. What are your favorite finds?
